40K PAINT AND PLAY LEAGUE PHASE III

On Thursday January 4, Leisure Time Games will be continuing onto the next phase of their in-store year long event, the 40K Paint And Play League-Phase III. The response to the first two phases were extraordinary,  gathering our local players together to collect, paint, and then play the latest version of 40K during each of the first two four week events.

Now, we continue on this year long journey as we get ready for Phase III.

What Is The 40K Paint And Play League?

First and foremost, the main focus of this league is about welcoming and encouraging new players, while at the same time accommodating the more experienced players as well.  We want to make sure that at any time someone joins us, they can jump right into the fun. Furthermore, we also want to do what we can to encourage every aspect of this fantastic hobby, from collecting, to painting, modifying and of course playing.

What To Expect

To begin, players come in to Leisure Time Games and purchase a box or figure of their choice (more on that in the "What Is An Escalation League" section below). Then the figure, or figures as the case may be, are assembled and painted- We'll always have a painting area set up.

The rest of the gaming area will be for playing games. Games can be played with comparative Power Levels or points as the players see fit.Players then play each other in whatever format they think they'll have the most fun with: one on one, group game, power level, points, etc.

Weekly Breakdown

The League will go something like this:

Week 1- Paint

Purchase a box of basic troops (or other appropriate item that is allowed in the current phase), then assemble and paint them

Week 2- Paint And Play

Same as week 1 for any new players that join in, or if you just want to keep painting, that would be awesome too. The rest of you, play games and have a good time.

Week 3- Paint And Play

See Week 2

Week 4- Wrap up

Paint some stuff, play some final games, and we'll pass out League Participation Awards- See the League Participation Awards section below.

The Details

We are making some big changes to the league this time. As far as when we'll be playing, games were on Thursdays from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Fridays from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. This time, we're opening up the weekend too. We'll have an overflow room available on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and on Sunday from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. If you can't make it on Thursday or Friday for a regular league game, you'll have the option to come in on the weekend.

Which leads me to something else that will be new

Store Challenges

Since we have opened up the overflow room to the 40K players, if you and an opponent want to get a full tournament sized game in, the weekend is a perfect time. We've got the the tournament sized tables; 6'x4'. We've got the extra terrain. Come on in, and have at it. We'll count your games as a part of the league.

What Is An Escalation League?

As this year long league marches on, we'll scale the army selections with each new phase to accommodate participants based on previous attendance. Everyone starts with a basic troop choice. As time marches on each participant will enter a new phase of the league, where another choice will be added. Essentially, even though the league is on Phase III, new players will start at Phase I, move to Phase II, and so on. For example:

Phase I

Players will enroll in the league by coming in to Leisure Time Games and purchasing a basic troop choice box set for the army they want to run. As mentioned above, the first week of the league will be assembly and painting. Then, each subsequent week will be more painting and assembling, playing games, and perhaps even setting up challenges. More on that below.

Phase II

All phases of the league are run similarly to Phase I, except each phase will add another choice to grow the army. The goal of Phase II is to acquire, paint, and play with your troop choice from Phase I, but then to add either another troop choice, or an HQ choice.

Phase III

Just like Phase I and II, you will add another choice to your army, but with this phase the goal is to complete what is known as your "Compulsory Army". A Compulsory Army has 1 HQ choice, and 2 troop choices.

Phase IV And Beyond

More choices will be added as time goes on, giving more leeway to the participants goals for their army. By the end of this year long event, Phase X, the idea is to not only have an army built up, but painted, practiced, and even have terrain to present on the board. More on that in a future phase.

TL:DR

We're starting up the 40K Paint and Play League Phase III the first week of January.

Purchase based on your experience

  1. Phase I players (New folks)

Purchase a troop choice box set (same as before)

  2. Phase II players

Purchase an HQ or a Troop Choice (also the same as before)

  3.  Phase III players

Complete your Compulsory Army (1 HQ, 2 Troops)

Paint some figures and play some games

  1. League Games

Play with your Phase I-III armies, Thursday through Sunday

  2. Store Challenges

Play larger games, Saturday and Sunday

League Participation Awards

Once the league is over, we'll be handing out awards to the participants for various reasons, such as:

Brought a new friend
Are a new player
Most fun to play against
Most improved player
Best painted model
Most improved Painter
Any other reason we can think of that spreads the love around

You may have noticed there isn't an award for "Winner". This league emphasized fun and participation. That's not to say we won't put together something like that in the future, just not with this particular league format.

We'll be handing out awards like:

Wargear bonuses*
An extra command die for your army*
Force your opponent to re-roll once a game*
A bonus objective*
Free entry to our next GAMES DAY EVENT

*To be used during the next league

As We Go Forward

40K Tournament

At the end of each Phase, we will be hosting a tournament. We'll go over the details on that later, but you do not have to participate in the league to play in the tournament.

So that's all about the league. If you have any questions or input, please feel free to message us.

    1. Thank you, thank you very much,
I’m checking it out on my phone now to see what needs to change. I already see a stuff that needs shifting, but all in all I’m happy with it so far
